Many believe that 21 Savage’s guest appearance on Drake’s latest single “It’s Up” was a jab at Kendrick Lamar. On Tuesday, the rapper from Toronto released the song on the internet alongside two other singles and a plethora of other material. In total, he gave his supporters access to 100 gigabytes of content. “Crafted a few tracks thinking he’s hot right now / Hit his rear end thinking he’s pac now,” 21 raps throughout his verse. He and Young Thug are both featured on the song.
When 21 decided to join the feud, fans’ reactions were all over the map. “Rather than publicly supporting their boy, mfers are afraid to say candy man’s name, so they’re picking sides through sneak dissing,” speculated one X user (previously Twitter). An additional comment said: “21 Savage really shouldn’t be coming at Kendrick bc he’s one of the worst new-gen rappers and all his verses sound the same.” Some said that 21 had no intention of attacking Lamar. “I doubt it it’s probably an old song considering there’s a thug feat,” a viewer said.
This potential diss by 21 follows Drake’s highly publicized dispute with Kendrick Lamar, in which the Compton rapper was the target of multiple diss tracks, such as “The Heart Part 6,” “Family Matters,” and “Push Ups.” After Lamar dropped the smash single “Not Like Us” and hosted Los Angeles’s The Pop Out—Ken & Friends, many fans thought he had won.
