Travis Scott has come a long way since the Astroworld Tragedy.
With his number one return record, Utopia, and his earth-shaking support tour, Travis is back on top. Travis Scott won the I Am Hip Hop Award at the 2024 BET Hip-Hop Awards today (October 15), which was a great way to cap off an amazing year.
Aside from Travis, though, not everyone is happy about their award. During his speech, Travis Scott talked to the doubters and early career skeptics. “I can remember when people from my generation thought we were nothing like hip-hop,” he said. “As a producer, I try to push the sound every day.” At first, no one had any idea what the hell I was up to. But I’ve always had this idea and goal. To raise the sound to a higher level.
Not being nice is not over yet. When Travis was named this year’s winner, people online were upset with the choice. But in the post’s description (which you can see here), BET seemed to answer the criticism by writing, “From Astroworld vibes to breaking records with legendary tracks while making every stage feel like a movie, Travis truly embodies the culture.” In honor of his undeniable impact, hard work, and the way he keeps the game on “Sicko Mode,” this award is more than just a trophy!
